About

From Bremen via Prague and Zurich to Sydney

Travel journalist, author of more than 30 books – and today, the mastermind behind other people's books.

Gunnar Habitz was born in Bremen, Germany, and found two early passions that have stayed with him ever since: travel and writing. While studying computer science he led tour groups to Prague and followed the city's transformation from the wild nineties into the present. For years he reported for the Prager Zeitung, mostly on the culinary and cultural sides of his adopted second home.

In parallel he spent nearly two decades in management roles at Hewlett-Packard in Zurich. The travel and the research grew into a second pillar: travel guides, hotel guides, photo books, reportage and theatre reviews about Czechia, Switzerland and Lake Constance – published mostly with Polyglott, Vista Point, Bruckmann and Hoffmann, and in the magazines MERIAN, GEO Saison, ReiseBlick, musicals and others.

In 2016 Gunnar moved to Sydney with his wife Alexandra. The travel writer became an author of business and personal-development books, with fairy tales along the way and a readership growing across two continents. More than 30 titles and over 70 countries travelled are now the foundation for his real work: helping others build their book.

After years of his own writing, Gunnar knows every hurdle – from the blank page to the finished print run. Now he passes that experience on: to experts who want to turn their knowledge into a book that actually gets finished. Most recently he guided his own mother through exactly that process for her three books.

Gunnar has always been a builder, by the way: he won his first LEGO competition at the age of six and has been a builder ever since. Today he builds books instead of bricks, but the principle is the same – first the blueprint, then the work.

Guidance

Helping fellow authors

I don't just build my own book projects. Most recently I advised Adem Manderovic and George Coudounaris on their book Closed Circuit Selling – from structure through to launch. If your knowledge deserves a book, I will build the plan for it with you.
